Mardi Gras 2025!

At Grace we celebrate Mardi Gras on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday (March 5) with a luncheon and talent show. We share a lot of laughter and fun before we get to the serious work of Lent. Sign up sheets will be in the Solarium, Nolt
Auditorium and the Narthex. Vicki Mumma and friends will be
supplying the main dishes- we ask that you bring a dessert to share.

Meanwhile, think about a talent or non-talent that will make us laugh, lift our spirits or both that you are willing to share. There will be a sign up sheet for the talent show participation as well. If you have any questions please contact Kathryn Verkouw, Lisa Bisignani, or Angie Rabbe.

February 2025 – Master, Slave, Husband, Wife by Ilyon Woo

“A rich narrative of the Crafts, an enslaved couple who escaped from Georgia in 1848, with light-skinned Ellen disguised as a disabled white gentleman and William as her manservant, exploiting assumptions about race, class, and disability to hide in public on their journey to the North, where they became famous abolitionists while evading bounty hunters.” —The Pulitzer Prizes We will meet on February 24th from 1:30 to 3:30 in the Nolt Auditorium. This discussion will be led by Barbara Andersen.

March 2025-The Last Days of Night by Graham  Moore

New York 1888:  Gas lamps still flicker in city streets, but the miracle of electric lights are still in
infancy. The person who still controls the means to turn night into day will make history and a vast fortune. A young lawyer named Paul Cravath, just out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. His client, George Westinghouse, is being sued by Thomas Edison over billion dollar question: who invented the light bulb and holds the rights to power the country. This book is based on factual events about the nature of genius, the cost of ambition, and the battle to electrify America. We will meet on March 24th from 1:30-3:30 in the Nolt Auditorium. This discussion will be led by Lorraine Long.

Outreach

Souper Bowl Sunday Continues This Sunday!

Thanks to all who supported the Souper Bowl of Caring.  Thanks to your generosity we collected $200 toward gift cards for supper supplies and Pastor’s discretionary distribution, and a nice abundance of non-perishables for the pantry.

Because of the poor weather on Super Bowl Sunday, we suspect that many of you who did not attend church may be sorry you missed the opportunity to participate.  As such, we’ve decided it’s a great idea to extend to this Sunday, February 16th.
For the Wednesday evening meals, our team can always use spaghetti sauce, containers of powdered coffee creamer, individual cans of Chunky soup or ravioli, and packages of dinner rolls (which can be frozen if not used within a few days).
In addition, we have been partnering with the Parish Resource Center for take-out meals provided multiple times per week, for which the following items are needed:  snacks in individual bags (chips, pretzels, etc.), dessert or candy in individual servings, granola bars, and individual bags or nuts or trail mix.
If grocery shopping is not your thing, we will also encourage folks to purchase gift cards through our Grocery Card Project – Cash for Causes, which can be used to purchase items for the above-mentioned meals or distributed to folks in need by Pastor Verkouw at his discretion.
Thanks!
