Brenda Hayasaka and Donna Linton are in charge of School Kits and need your help. Take advantage of the school supply sales coming next month. These are the items they need to fill the bags they have on hand or will purchase.
- Four 70 sheet SPIRAL notebooks of wide or college-ruled paper approximately 8” x 10 ½ ”, no loose leaf paper
- One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other
- One pencil sharpener
- One pair of blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)
- Five unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secure together with a rubber band
- Five black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink); secure together with a rubber band
- One box of 16 or 24 crayons
- One 2 ½” eraser
Thank you to Janet Neumar who plans to apply for a Thrivent Visa card for $250 to buy items. We need more items from you to fill the bags.
We are also doing Personal Care Kits. We will purchase bulk items from a Thrivent card and also from your monetary donations. If you want to put your own kit together, here are the directions.
- One light-weight bath size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark color
- Two or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz, any brand, in original wrapping
- One adult-size toothbrush in its original wrapping
- One metal nail clippers (attached file optional), remove packaging
We will add a comb to your kit as we ordered in bulk. Loose items are accepted.
Fold the towel in half widthwise. Place the rest of the items in the towel, fold and roll so nothing falls out, and secure with yarn, ribbon, or string or just put your items, including the towel, in a plastic bag.
If you want to help with cash donations, please write on your check “LWR Kits.” Brenda and Barbara will share the money as needed. Boxes for your donations will be in the Narthex and at the entrance as you come in the door to church.

Our Grace Family
Meet Scott Fabel

A man who wears many hats is an apt way to introduce new member to Grace, Scott Fabel. A native of the Poconos, Scott came to the area to attend and receive his degree from Millersville University, and he never left after becoming employed at Ford New Holland where he provided bilingual support in French on the help desk.
Currently he is employed as a Training Consultant, teaching technology and business courses to Fortune 1000 companies. Residing in Lancaster for thirty plus years, Scott has become very active as a member of the Board of Directors for the Musser Park Civic Association. He is also the chaplain at the Lancaster Masonic Lodge.
How did he get to Grace? Scott is a baptized Methodist. He also volunteers with New Person Ministries, helping to reintegrate former prisoners to the community. He has also been called to serve as a chaplain at LGH. While Scott attends numerous and diverse religious services, he was attracted to join us at Grace, partly because of the liturgy but also because of our dedication in sharing Christ in the local community.
Oh, and some other interesting facts about Scott are he has two cats and a rabbit, he’s a fan of Shakespeare, he was employed as an adjunct professor of Russian at MU, and he’s working on his Ph. D!
Please welcome Scott to Grace.
Look for a new feature in upcoming editions of Grace News! Kath encouraged me to write articles about YOU! Yes, YOU, the members of Grace Lutheran will be the focus. Don’t be shy, when I call, email, or twist your arm to meet with me. We’ll share a cup of coffee and learn each other’s story. But, first, a bit about me. I am a cradle Lutheran (Holy Trinity in Ephrata) who graduated with a degree in English and German from Susquehanna University. In both high school and college, I wrote for and/or edited newspapers and yearbooks. I taught English for thirty plus years. My passion is reading and spreading the love of reading to others. At Grace I serve as the steward of the Little Free Library dedicated to deceased members of Grace Book Group in which I am actively involved. I look forward to learning your story and sharing it.
