Summer Book Groups
In-person Book Group July & August

For the meeting at 1:30 PM on Monday, July 28, 2025, the Grace In Person Book Group will be discussing Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon. In this first book of Leon’s featuring the humane Commisario Guido Brunetti of the Venice homicide division, the reader is introduced to Brunetti, his family and work colleagues, and, of course, Venice as he narrows down his investigation of the sudden death of a famous opera conductor that occurred during the intermission of an opera he was conducting. This is the first novel in a long series centering on Brunetti and Venice by this New Jersey native and former university professor of English literature.
August 25th at 1:30 Nolt Auditorium. The Book for August is: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.

Books, Coffee, and Conversation—7pm on Zoom 7/8 & 8/12

WHERE ARE THE WAVES?
You might have noticed wooden painted waves placed around two walls of Nolt Auditorium for the past 3 years. Suddenly they are gone! Where did they come from? Where did they go? Well, it is an interesting story that I thought I would share.
Around 3 1/2 years ago the Salvation Army contacted Megan Supeck about VBS materials that they were totally looking to share/give away from their past season. Megan and Kath loved the idea but where do we store these big wooden waves – why not in plain sight! We placed a wall of waves around Nolt auditorium and posted biblical verses referencing water for our Sunday School theme that fall.
Then we had two seasons of Vacation Bible School which had water themes. Perfect! Meanwhile we noticed on the back of these waves was stamped “Property of Penn Manor Marching Unit”. Huh, Penn Manor must have created these waves for their Marching Band Show. But not where do we send them to? Why not share them to Pastor Mark Kopp’s church in Millersville for their VBS? That is exactly what happened. The Waves will now adorn St. Paul’s Millersville for a season. Goodbye waves! May your blessing travel far and wide.

- One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other

- One box of 16 or 24 crayons
- One 2 ½” eraser
Thank you to Janet Neumar who plans to apply for a Thrivent Visa card for $250 to buy items. We need more items from you to fill the bags.
We are also doing Personal Care Kits. We will purchase bulk items from a Thrivent card and also from your monetary donations. If you want to put your own kit together, here are the directions.
- One light-weight bath size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark color

We will add a comb to your kit as we ordered in bulk. Loose items are accepted.
Fold the towel in half widthwise. Place the rest of the items in the towel, fold and roll so nothing falls out, and secure with yarn, ribbon, or string or just put your items, including the towel, in a plastic bag.
