Lenten Devotionals
Adults
This year we have two devotional options for adults. A weekly devotion from ELCA World Hunger that has reading and reflection questions for each week of Lent. This devotional pairs well with the ELCA World Hunger Lent calendar, but the calendar isn’t necessary for the devotional. The second devotional, Gathered Into One, is from Augsburg Fortress. This devotional has a daily Bible reading, reflection, and prayer.
Children
Our children’s devotional for this year is Jesus Loves Me is based on Psalm 23. It is full of activities for our younger members. If you would like, you may bring your pages back to church on a weekly basis and hang them in the Nolt Auditorium.
Other Resources
Families
We have a Lenten spiral from Illustrated Ministries that has weekly Bible readings and activities for families to do together, including weekly nature walks and family feasts. We have this in both full color and black and white if you wish to color your own.
All Ages
We have coloring pages based on the Psalms read during Sundays in Lent & Holy Week. We have both detailed and simplified coloring pages.
Walk, Talk, & Pray
This year for our Walk, Talk, and Pray group we are encouraging folks to find a walking buddy (or buddies)–your buddy doesn’t have to be from Grace. Grab a copy of ELCA World Hunger devotional (and maybe a copy for your buddy)… we recommend reading before you go for your walk and using the discussion questions to spark conversation on your walk. You could also use the weekly nature walk in the Lenten Spiral for this practice. We are also encouraging you to take photos on your walk and email them to Angie to be included in the Grace News. Angie’s email is gracechurch517@gmail.com.
My Lenten Journey
My Lenten Journey was created by Kath and Angie…we ask that you take time to ponder what you will be fasting, giving, and praying for during this Lenten season. We created a handout so that you can remind yourself of your intentions.
Adult Christian Formation
Discovery Class–During the Christian Formation Hour
Pastor Steve will use the Lenten Sunday School hour to conduct a new and updated version of his “Discovery Class” – Surprises and Insights from Scripture, Tradition, and Lutheranism and our Ministry at Grace.
With Pastor Steve’s guidance, participants will deepen their knowledge of the Bible, the long tradition of Christian faith, our “home-turf” Lutheran Confessions, and understand how all these undergird our ministry priorities at Grace Church and in the neighborhood.
Two Tuesday evenings with the Rev. Peter Rustico
Discussion Topic: “4 Gospels, 1 Message”
When: Feb. 27 and March 5, 7-8:15 pm in Nolt auditorium
Description: Matthew, Mark Luke, and John. We hear from one of these guys every Sunday, but who are they? What are they trying to say? Are they teammates or adversaries? How do they inform the gospel of Jesus?
