The Advent Project Week 1

Eternal God, your Word of wisdom goes forth and does not return empty: Grant us such knowledge and love of you that we may perceive your presence in all creation and every creature; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, now and forever. Amen.

Reflection

It’s no secret that Advent is my favorite season of the church year. Which is strange because those of you who know me well know that I am anything but patient. Thankfully Lutherans love a good paradox. I don’t mind waiting in Advent. It’s a chance to reflect on all that God has done, is doing, and will yet do. It’s a chance to slow down and in our fast paced world, a chance to slow down is much needed.

Our readings for this week remind us that it is God, not man who is in control. We can rush into the Christmas season or we can slow down and ponder the year ahead. Personally, I think there’s wisdom in pondering  what God has done for us and the year ahead  instead of trying to perfect Christmas decorations and cookies.

This season let’s slow down and embrace the hopes of our faith; we believe that the God who has gone before us is with us.

Let us pray…

O Wisdom of our God Most High,
guiding creation with power and love:
come to teach us the path of knowledge!
