Christmas Eve 2020

Hello Grace Families and Friends,

Talking with the children in Sunday School over the past week, we agreed that we all might need a bit of forethought and encouragement to celebrate Christmas eve in a different yet spiritually special way.  So the following is some instruction and encouragement to make Christmas special, even with our pandemic frustration.

First, a REMINDER that our live-streamed worship will be on our YouTube channel, Grace Lutheran Church Lancaster PA, going live at 7 pm with a combination of live and recorded participation.  See the link below.

If you have questions call someone!

Second, TECHNOLOGY – as a “slow adopter” of technology myself, I have learned that videos stream better if you download the Youtube app on your computer or phone.  It is not necessary but there are definite perks to connecting that way plus the app is free, no commitment there.  If you feel confused by this request our staff at the office or any young person you can call could coach you through it.

Third, WHERE will you watch?  Prepare a space, as close to your Wifi as possible.  Add candles, your advent wreath, decorations, a Bible with Luke, chapter 2 marked, and, if you really want to recreate being in the church sit in a hard chair!  J

Fourth, have a CANDLE OR CANDLES ready to light, to share the light of Christ as we all sing “Silent Night.”

Fifth, PRAY that everything goes smoothly and is not frustrated by technology .  So many people have contributed their time, talents and efforts to this worship service – may the joy, hope, love and peace of Christ’s birth pour forth from this worship service and bless all who view/participate in it!

Sixth, another REMINDER: if you can’t be there at 7pm, the service will be linked on our website just a few minutes later to view and re-view at your convenience.  There is something special about knowing that many of us will be watching together even if we are not all together physically.  During the live stream, people can write reactions and comments in the chat box as they are watching.

Seventh, Pastor will be celebrating HOLY COMMUNION during the service on Christmas Eve, and invites anyone who wishes to come to Grace on Christmas Day between 1 and 3 pm, to receive that communion and to spend a brief time in the church for prayer and to see the Christmas decorations in person.  Please wear a mask inside, and there will be a guide to make sure folks are very widely spaced as they come.  While you don’t have to make a reservation, it would be very helpful to know if you plan to come, so please text Pastor Steve at 717-419-7829, or call the office 717-397-2748 and leave a message.

A very Merry and Blessed Christmas to you all.  May our worship – though very different this year- still be blessed with God’s Holy Light, and allow the gift of Christ Jesus and the joy of his birth to shine through our darkness.

Hoping to see you online or on Christmas Day!

Love and Peace to you all –

Pastor Steve and Kathryn Verkouw, Grace Program Director
