“You are witnesses of these things.” – Luke 24:48

Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them a mind-opening experience. As witnesses they are charged with telling the truth of their experience. We, too, are witnesses charged with telling the truth. How might you share the truth about creation care and climate change in our polarized culture?

This Week’s Green Tips

We are still collecting caps for the Earth Savers Club at Central York High School. If you would like to help—drop off your clean/label free caps to the church office!

Thank you for helping to protect our planet!

Early Spring Garden Projects

Weed young spring weeds and mulch bare spots in beds

Any weeds appearing in your garden beds will be easiest to pull now, when the roots are shallow. Covering bare spots with mulch or ground cover will minimize the emergence of new weeds. Read more here

Contemplating Logos

“Listen, O my son, to the precepts of thy master, and incline the ear of thy heart, and cheerfully receive and faithfully execute the admonitions of thy loving Father, that by the toil of obedience thou mayest return to Him from whom by the sloth of disobedience thou hast gone away.”
(Prologue to The Rule of St. Benedict, Trans. Rev. Boniface Verheyen OSB, 1949)

This week’s reading is John 4:1-26

Weekly Rest

Last week we talked about resting in God. This week, I want us to think about seeking God and the ways in which we seek or don’t seek Him.

Our reading for this week is a short excerpt from Gregory of Nyassa’s “The Life of Moses”:

This truly is the vision of God: never to be satisfied in the desire to see him. But one must always, by looking at what he can see, rekindle his desire to see more. Thus, no limit would interrupt growth in the ascent to God, since no limit to the Good can be found nor is the increasing of desire for the Good brought to an end because it is satisfied.

As you ponder these lines, think back to last week’s reading from Augustine. How are seeking and resting related? Do you think that Augustine would have agreed with Gregory and vice versa (try to make your answer more than yes or no)? Can we seek to know more about God while resting in God? Don’t read my answer below, until you have formed your own response.

I would say that we cannot seek God unless we are resting in God and that we can’t rest in God unless we seek God. This week I encourage all of us to pay attention to the ways in which we both rest and seek God.
