Contemplating Logos

“Listen, O my son, to the precepts of thy master, and incline the ear of thy heart, and cheerfully receive and faithfully execute the admonitions of thy loving Father, that by the toil of obedience thou mayest return to Him from whom by the sloth of disobedience thou hast gone away.”
(Prologue to The Rule of St. Benedict, Trans. Rev. Boniface Verheyen OSB, 1949)

This week’s reading is John 5:1-9a

Weekly Rest

How did taking time to pray work out for you last week?

Did you feel connected to God?

What will do the same this week?

What will you change?

We are ending our seven week series back where we began, with St. Augustine:

O loving God,  to turn away from you is to fall, to turn toward you is to rise, and to stand before you is to abide forever. Grant us, dear God, in all our duties your help; in all our uncertainties your guidance; in all our dangers your protection; and in all our sorrows your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you would like more prayers for this summer check out our summer devotional an illustrated compassion. See the Grace News article or email Angie (graceelcaapd@gmail.com) for more information.

Summer Devotional Materials

Join us this summer for an illustrated compassion a twelve week devotional that encourages us through scripture to live with compassion.

The first section looks at compassion in the Hebrew scriptures, the second section at compassion in the New Testament, and the third section focuses on why as Christians we should be compassionate. This is a great resource for families- there are family activities and coloring pages (the family activities can also be done by individuals)!

I will be posting questions/readings/prayers to our social media between June 13 and August 29, but you can do any 12 weeks this summer that work for you. Just like for Lent there will be a path of daily readings- one for each of the three sections of our devotional. These will be available on our website within the next few weeks. If you would like the materials emailed to you (it’s a big document) please email me at graceelcaapd@gmail.com. If you want to pick a copy up in the office please contact Vicki at 717-397-2748 or vicki@gracelutheranchurch.com. If you have any questions send me an email. Peace, Angie Rabbe.

If you would like to help—drop off your clean/label free caps to the church office!

Thank you for helping to protect our planet!

Early spring is the time to set out bulbs which were forced in pots or bowls in the house. Some may bloom next spring, others may take two or three years to rebuild enough food reserve to support flowering. It’s also the time to plant out new lilies and any gladiola bulbs or dahlia tubers you may have overwintered inside. Read more here

Day of Pentecost, May 23, 2021

“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.” –Romans 8:26

We rest assured that we are covered in prayer by the Holy Spirit, and also by the prayers and love of our elders and ancestors whose job it is to steward us toward deeper faith and beloved community.
