December 22, 2019 (Fourth Sunday of Advent, Year A)
Matthew 1:20b – An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
The story of Joseph’s dream reminds us that God’s plans sometimes require us to depart from what we know and expect. As followers of Jesus, may we be able to find the courage and flexibility to be good stewards of all God’s amazing gifts.
Our Grace Family
Take Time To Pray
Dear members of Grace,
I am requesting that our congregation pray for a miracle to happen, that Ivine’s petition for asylum come to the attention of a judge in a timely fashion. We have been told that the courts are so backed up it could take years for her petition to be heard. Meanwhile she is not allowed to work, drive, or have any way to support herself or her family in Cameroon. She has everything gathered for her hearing – Lord, make it quickly come.
While you are praying for a miracle, please consider financially helping Ivine and her family. $300 every two months barely feeds Ivine’s family and fifty members of their village who are currently hiding in the bush. Please see Angie if you have questions about donating.
Also, please pray for our ESL students and their families; the work of Church World Service and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service; our church volunteers who work with our refugee and immigrant families; those in refugee camps; those separated from their families because of violence.Lord in your mercy…hear our prayers. Amen.
Dear Members of Grace, We give thanks for the life and witness of Mae Smethurst, sister of Marilyn Hoffman, who died Dec.15, 2019. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Marilyn and Bob, and to Mae’s family and friends. Please keep Marilyn’s family in your prayers.
Dear members of Grace,Tom and I want to express our gratitude and thanks for the cards and telephone calls from Grace members following the unexpected death of our son, Jeffrey. This means so much in times of sorrow and helps us walk through this with humbleness and faith in our dear Lord. Thank you all – Tom and Lorraine Long
