Lower Susquehanna Synod Assembly 2022

As you know, Grace Church is not “an island in the stream” all by ourselves but part of a community and communion of Lutheran churches across Lancaster County (the Lancaster Conference), South Central PA (the Lower Susquehanna Synod), the nation (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and the world (Lutheran World Federation).

Each of these bodies is governed by a board or council made up of a mix of clergy and laypersons, who ensure fiscal and procedural accountability, offer guidance to congregations, and make decisions in assembly for the good of all.

Grace Church seats two persons besides myself at the annual conference and synod assembly, one male and one female.  Angela Smith, our assistant program director, will serve as our female voting member, but we are still in need of a male voting member.

The conference assembly will be held this coming Sunday afternoon April 3, by ZOOM, at 3pm, and lasts about an hour.  The Synod Assembly will be held in several ZOOM sessions: Friday evening June 3, and morning and afternoon on June 4.

Is there a male member of Grace Church willing to serve Grace and the larger Lutheran Church in this way?  Please consider it, my brothers, and give me a call if you have questions or feel that you can fill this role.

Thanks!
Pastor Steve

ELL is starting a new in-person class beginning Monday April 4, 2022

Grace ELL began in 2018 as an in-person English language learners program dedicated to helping mothers with babies and toddlers learn English.  We provided in-person English instruction, transportation to class, and on-site childcare.  In March of 2020, after two years of growth and a move to James Street Mennonite Church while Grace was being renovated, we had to close down our in-person program and start an online class.  Our online class is still going strong.  We offer English instruction through Zoom every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Since the Covid positivity rate is so low, it seems like the right time to start an in-person initiative.  ELL will be offering a new in-person class on Monday mornings in Nolt Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

We currently have several teachers and a volunteer to work with the children, but we need more. Do you have Monday mornings available? Are you interested in teaching or maybe helping with childcare? If so please contact Barbara Andersen to volunteer for this rewarding ministry.  twandersen@comcast.net

Lenten Walking Group

Lenten Walking Group – Week Four
This week we focus on the spiritual habit of stillness.
Exodus 14:14, Psalms 37:7, Luke 10:38-42

Questions to consider…

  • What do you gain from being busy and what do you miss out on?
  • If you allowed yourself to really stop, where would you be right now in your life?
  • What do you yearn for most deeply, that being busy keeps you away from?
  • What does it take for you to be still?  What have you learned from taking time to be still?
  • How does God fit into your stillness?

Through stillness we can pay attention to what God is doing in us and around us. Stillness allows God to refocus our vision and turn our ears to His voice. It allows us to give Him the noise inside us while surrendering our worries, concerns, and problems to God. In stillness God refocuses our hearts on Him.
This week, get away for a few hours and practice giving God whatever concerns come to mind. Use this time to silence the noise inside you and get into the habit of making space to hear God’s voice.
Join us on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the  Buchanan Park Pavilion as we journey to make space for what matters – Five Spiritual Habits for Lent and Life. Please call or text Philip Supeck at 717.725.3429 to confirm your participation.

This Week’s Green Tip

Never place a rain barrel near stairs or structures that would allow a child to crawl on top of the barrel. In addition, children should be discouraged from playing near rain barrels. Read more here
