Grace ESL is Looking for VOLUNTEERS!
Grace ESL is a year-round English class for adult learners that provides transportation and childcare for students. We have been at Grace Church since April of 2018. Our students are refugees and recent immigrants from all over the world. We are affiliated with the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon. We receive referrals from local agencies in the Lancaster area. Our childcare team cares for our students’ babies and preschool aged children year-round. During the summer, our students may bring their children in grades K through 5. For the summer months, Grace ESL is moving to James Street Mennonite Church, 323 West James Street, Lanc. Our first class at James Street Mennonite was on Tuesday, June 4th. We are looking for additional volunteers for both our adult class and childcare. Adult volunteers will need a volunteer clearance in accordance with the Safe Church Policy at James Street Mennonite Church. Youth helpers in childcare will need to be entering 9th grade or higher. If you are interested in this rewarding volunteer opportunity, please call Barbara Andersen, Grace ESL Coordinator, at 717-669-8258 or the Grace Church Office at 717-397-2748.
Stewardship Snippets
June 9, 2019 (Day of Pentecost, Year C)
John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. Christians around the world celebrate today the Spirit of God poured out upon all creation. Because of this divine generosity, we can be bold, faithful, and fearless in our stewardship of God’s abundance.
VBS 2019
For the community service piece of our curriculum, we will be making “Grace Bags.” These bags will be kept in the church office so that the staff can hand them out when people come to the office looking for food. We are collecting the following items: granola bars, dried fruit (small bags/boxes), lunch box sized snacks, such as crackers and cookies, water bottles (8 or 16 oz), lip balm, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, gallon bags, toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel toiletries, travel sized laundry detergent, socks, gum and mints. Collection bins will be placed in the narthex and in the chapel. If you have any questions and/or would like to volunteer for VBS this year, please contact our Assistant Program Director, Angie Smith, graceelcaapd@gmail.com or 717-397-2748.
